DVLA Compliance and Legal Requirements

7D number plates are road-legal in the UK when manufactured correctly and ordered as road-legal. As with all the “D” styles, what matters legally is compliance with BS AU 145e, not the marketing name. Our 7D characters are three-dimensional and plain black, which the DVLA permits, see the GOV.UK number plate guidance.

A road-legal plate fitted after 1 September 2021 must show solid black Charles Wright characters at the correct size and spacing, a reflective white front and yellow rear, the supplier’s name, postcode and the BS AU 145e marking, and be a single shade of black with no removable or reflective effects. Any neon, tinted or carbon variant of this style is therefore supplied strictly for off-road show use.
